Mazloomi, an aerospace engineer turned quilt artist and historian, founded the Women of Color Quilters Network in 1985 and has spent four decades advocating for the recognition of Black American quiltmaking as fine art. Her black-and-white quilts memorialize African American freedom fighters and historical figures.
