To identify rhythm, look for repeated elements and trace the path your eye takes between them. Start by identifying what is being repeated: a shape, a color, a line, a texture. Then count the repetitions and notice the intervals between them. Are the intervals regular or varied? Are the repetitions identical or changing? The answers will tell you what type of rhythm the artist is using.
Pay attention to how the rhythm affects your eye movement. Does your eye move quickly or slowly? Does it follow a smooth path or jump between points? Does the rhythm lead you to a focal point or distribute your attention evenly across the surface?
