Aaron Douglas "combined angular cubist rhythms, seductive art deco style, and traditional African and African American imagery." Jacob Lawrence made his breakthrough in 1941 with "The Great Migration," 60 panels split between MoMA and The Phillips Collection. The first European retrospective of Lawrence is at Kunsthal KAdE in 2025.
